20 Things that make Chandler and Monica , THE BEST COUPLE in FRIENDS
Chandler and Monica are the best couple I know from the series F.R.I.E.N.D.S, why?
1.In Season 1 chandler says to monica that if both of them are single by 40. Then they can get married, which is laughed off / not taken seriously by monica. But chandler was comfortable enough to think so.
2.In Season 3 Chandler tries to explain monica why he would make a great boyfriend. He is trying to prove the point that there is a posibility for them both. He is consistent even though the last time he spoke about it monica laughed it off. We should also note that Monica is comfortable enough with Chandler to take the incidents lightly, she enjoys the fun conversations between them as well.
3.In Season 4 , Chandler helps monica by peeing on her leg when a jelly fish bit her ( which also becomes a dirty secret they share). It makes him a friend who would do anything for the people he care. This incident brings them a step closer.
4.Again in Season 4 finale, During the wedding fiasco of Ross and Emily, Chandler and Monica hook up in London and has sex for like 7 times, which clearly shows that they are attracted to each other. But the highlight is not even that even before the sex, chandler assures monica that she looks great and that she is the most beautiful girl in most rooms, which doesnt come out from a person’s mouth unless he/ she means it.Chandler is clearly a person who can handle monica’s insecurities quiet well.
5.Season 5 starts with chandler and Monica deciding to continue seeing each other, and their bond grows gradually from there where they decide to hide it from their friends until they are sure of their relationship. There is even an episode in season 5 where they take a trip to see each other and spent some quiet hours away from friends, where they have their first fight. The way they deal with their first fight, monica explaining to chandler that couples fight and its quiet normal, that doesnt need a breakup. It shows that how they compliment each others insecurites well.
6.Season 5 episode 8 “The one with all the thanksgivings” is where chandler first professes his love to monica, thus making it more special and meaningful for the two of them. Seeing their journey, the directors have taken the long road to prove to the viewers that they are indeed sure about each other because as the saying goes “Rome was not built in a day” neither was what chandler and monica had!
7.In season 5 although Monica hates chandler’s work laugh, she understands the situation and immediately supports him to continue having a different face altogether at work just so that he can have a smooth work experience, as we all know some bosses require constant validation from the employees to prove that they are not only smart but quiet charming too.
8.In season 5 , when chandler finds out that monica gives bad massages, even though openly conveying to her that her massages are bad hurt her , he remained truthful but with a sweet twist that shows he clearly understands Monica so well; he says she gives the best bad massages indicating her need for validation and the need for being the best at something put to good use.
9. The final episodes of season 5 where chandler and Monica have their one year relationship anniversary where they say that they love each other and wish to marry each other in an impulse, but again as they realise that they wish to live together, that is the correct step for them. This proves that they would have a step back instead of moving a wrong step forward. They have their own pace and they are comfortable to be who they are in the relationship instead of doing things for the sake of it. They want to mean everything they say and do in this relationship.
10. When Chandler decides to propose to monica he really takes time to find the perfect ring where he considers deeply what would make monica happy. He goes to great extends to get the ring back when its brought by someone else when he has gone to get his wallet. It shows to what extend he can truly go for their relationship and for monica.
11. Towards the end of season 6 when chandler acts like he doesnt want to marry monica just so that he can give her a surprise proposal, she meets richard where richard confesses that he still loves monica. But she doesnt immediately give in rather wait to rethink things because she is deeply in love with chandler and even though he has said something which is quiet not like him, she gives him a chance , she tries to understand chandler.
12. Season 7 Episode 9 “The one with all the candies” , as we all know Monica loves praises, she wants to prove that she is the best. She makes free candies for people and it becomes overwhelming in the end for her. People starts pounding on her door impatiently for candy, she is in a dilemma. Some of the peoples words hurt her, chandler points out to them what Monica was trying to do was a good deed without expecting anything in return and how they were misusing her kindness. Even though she is a strong independent woman who can speak for herself, when in such tongue-tied situations chandler doesnt need any prompts he sweeps in as her knight in shining armour.
13. Season 7 Episode 22 “The one with Chandler’ dad , Monica helps chandler realise not calling his dad for his only son’s wedding would be a thing that he will regret later, she relentlessly puts effort for him to go and reconcile with his dad which turns fruitful.
14. Season 7 final episodes “ The one with Chandler and Monica’s wedding”, even though chandler has a panic attack and tries to run away from the wedding, the false news of Monica being pregnant stops him , where he realises how much he wants to be with her, and how he will not abandon her if at all she is pregnant. He brings a baby dress from a nearby gift shop as a gesture to show his commitment towards her and their relationship.
15. Season 8 Episode 8 “The one with the stripper”, feeling guilty that Monica had a stripper in her bachelorette party but Chandler didnt. She arranges him a stripper ( which turns out to be a hooker), this shows how confident Monica is with chandler watching a woman strip for him even when she is not around. After they come to know its a hooker, chandler stays within his limits and doesnt engage in anything which will make him regret later, thus proving his loyalty. Monica indeed does a sweet gesture of self-stripping because she has promised a stripper to him, thus showing how much he means to her. This bond that they have is deep and quiet rare.
16. Season 8 Episode 10 “The one with Monica’s Boots, Monica bought quiet an expensive set of boots which surprises Chandler, he points out it was a wastage of money. However, monica wins the whole discussion saying she is going to wear it everywhere. But she soon finds out how painful and non-user friendly that whole boot design is, but she feels embaressed to tell chandler the truth since she argued. Monica cannot wear the boots anymore after chandlers workplace party, chandler carries her on the shoulder to home, which is such a romantic- beautiful episode.
17. Season 8 Episode 13 “ The one where Chandler takes a bath “ , chandler who thinks bubble baths are womanish, enjoys a bubble bath and Monica helps him relax. She teaches him the art of relaxing and let be. She helps him see the difference in receiving certain thoughts. His negative ideologies or conceptions are broken down and rebuilt by Monica in a gentle and tender way.
18. Season 9 Episodes 21 and 22, Chandler and Monica comes to know that they cannot conceive a child naturally, if so they might need a sperm donor. He brings his coworker from office who he thinks is suitable to be the sperm donor having good physical features and qualities. However, his gesture makes Monica fall more deeply in love with him, which makes her decide that they dont have to have a child by blood relations they can also adopt. If she cannot have his child then she doesnt want anybody else to father the child biologically with her. Here, we can also see how chandler feels the need to make Monica happy by knowing that the most important feeling in the world for monica would be to be a mother, she always wanted to be a mother. Their mutual understanding, concern and selflessness makes their bond so natural and perfect.
19. Season 9 Episode 8 “The one with Rachels sister”, when rachels middle sister visits Rachel, she insults Rachel and all of her friends. Rachel breaks the precious chinas of Monica during the fight with her sister, so Chandler stops them and points out their mistakes. Chandler also makes them understand how they misbehaved and disrespected his wife’s kind gestures. He was furious that they broke Monica’s favorite China plate.
20.Season 10 the final episodes of adoption and finale, where chandler keeps his promise by straightening out the last minute confusions and getting twin babies back home. They also move on to their suburban home sweet home dreams together. They work together, they are meant to be.
